Margarete, Michael Winters, younger sister was Stefan Mager's Grandmother. Of the children she and Nikolaus stayed in Germany. According to Stefan our family's corresponded until 1949 when his Uncle died.
Stefan and his brother have tried since then to find a member of our family to correspond with. I was given his address by the Kansas Winters who had been corresponding with him since February 1997.
Stefan's message to us from his letter of September 3, 1997 is:
"I can imagine that not all the descendants of the emigrants are interested in having news concerning the birthplace of their ancestors. To those who are interested , I'm ready to give information. Language is often a problem.
Diersdorf the birthplace of the Winters consist of 3 buildings near the French border. Only one Winter is still living there. (Nikolaus)
The reason for the emigration of so many people 100 years ago to the USA was probably the poverty. There was not room enough to support so many children, and so people tried to find their fortune in foreign countries.
As to my person I would like to say the following:
Age 62 years married with Gisela Schellenbach 63 years old sine 1962.
1 daughter 31 years old
1 son 29 years old
1 grand daughter 5 years old
We are living in the house of my grand parent Anton Mager and Margarete Winter. My father was the last children of my grandparents and he died 1997 88 years old. My mother spend her evening of life in our house and she is 97 years old. I've got two brother who also live in Fremersdorf. I would be very interested in knowing if the descendants of Kasper and Micheal Winter ever tried to have contact with their relatives in Germany and France.
Hoping that you will answer soon and thanking you in advance.
I remain yours Stefan Mager."
